Elbow

The elbow
Your elbow is a versatile joint that allows you to bend and extend your arm. It plays a crucial role in everyday movements, such as lifting, writing and sports. Although the elbow is relatively strong, it can also be prone to injuries and conditions, which can lead to pain and limitations in your range of motion.
What do you notice about elbow pain?
Pain in the elbow can range from mild irritation to severe pain that affects your daily functioning.
Possible symptoms include:
- Pain or discomfort when bending or stretching the arm
- Stiffness or limited range of motion
- Swelling or a feeling of warmth around the elbow
- Pain radiating to the forearm or shoulder

What causes elbow pain?
Elbow pain can be caused by a variety of factors. Sometimes it results from an acute injury, but it can also result from chronic overuse. Some common causes are:
- Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis): This condition often results from repetitive movements, such as in tennis or other sports, and causes pain on the outside of the elbow.
- Golf elbow (medial epicondylitis): This is a similar condition but on the inside of the elbow, often caused by overuse in activities such as golfing or lifting.
- Injuries or trauma: A fall or a wrong move can lead to strains or even fractures in the elbow.
