Geriatrics Therapy
Physical therapy for the elderly

What is geriatric physical therapy?
At VMfysio, geriatric physical therapy focuses on treating and assisting the elderly with complex health problems. These may include reduced mobility, increased risk of falling, chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis or osteoporosis, or rehabilitation after surgery or illness.
Our goal is to help seniors improve their strength, balance and independence so they can perform their daily activities with greater ease and confidence. Treatments are fully customized and include targeted exercise therapy to strengthen muscles, fall prevention exercises and practical advice on assistive devices and home modifications.
The geriatric physiotherapist at VMfysio works specifically to maintain and improve mobility, independence and quality of life, with particular attention to frail elderly patients. Together we strive for a more active and safer daily life.

Increased aging
The geriatric physical therapist plays an important role in supporting the elderly in regaining mobility and coping with loss of independence. Patients primarily do exercise therapy, aimed at improving strength, balance and functional movements important in daily life.
An aging population in the Netherlands brings new challenges, with the goal being to keep the elderly functioning independently for as long as possible. Scientific research increasingly shows how functional exercise and training can improve not only mobility but also overall quality of life in the elderly. This applies to a variety of conditions and medical treatments, giving geriatric physical therapy an increasingly important role in caring for an aging population.
